West Lothian
Linlithgow
Linlithgow is a picturesque town in West Lothian, mainly famous for Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.
Located midway between Edinburgh and Falkirk, the palace of Linlithgow is situated on the banks of Linlithgow Loch. There is a gorgeous circular paved walk around the loch, offering many different views of the Palace and dotted along the route are numerous memory benches; a reminder that this tranquil spot held a special place in the hearts of many people who lived here or visited.
Linlithgow also has a special place in my heart as the canal I walked from Glasgow to Edinburgh on ran through the town, and was one of the viewpoints marked out on route (luckily I reached it before it went dark so I saw how pretty it was). I can say even when tired and weary, where the canal runs through Linlithgow is beautiful, and definitely worth a walk along if you ever get the chance.
