Lockerbie
Lockerbie is a small town in south western Scotland, unfortunately mainly known for the Lockerbie air disaster in 1988. Pan Am Flight 103 was blown up on it’s way from Heathrow Airport to New York, and the debris field was 73 miles long, not only killing all 259 people on board but also 11 people on the ground when parts of the plane landed on a housing estate near to the A74.
The memorial dedicated to the people that lost their lives in the bombing can be found in Dryfesdale Cemetery, on the outskirts of the town. The cemetery is beautifully looked after and the memorial for the victims is an extremely moving and peaceful place, which really brings home the scale of the tragedy.

Moffat
Moffat is an historic spa town in the heart of Southern Scotland. Just off the motorway, though you’d never realise, it’s a peaceful place alongside the River Annan. Surrounded by hills and boasting lots of walking opportunities, Moffat is a traditional Scottish town and a perfect place to stop off if travelling further into Scotland.
Just before you reach the town with its high street and shops, there is a park with a boating lake in the centre. This was the spot we found the memory benches below.
