The map was built between 1974 and 1979 and was the brainchild of Jan Tomasik. It is sculptured in concrete and is claimed to be the world’s largest terrain relief model.

We visited the map on the way up to Scotland for a weeks holiday. The map itself is very impressive, although in need of a bit of TLC when we visited. There is a viewing platform to overlook the map outlining the areas you are looking at. The bench below was placed to the north of the map, overlooking the map and the picturesque grounds of the hotel.
