Stirlingshire
Stirling
Along with Edinburgh, Stirling is one of my favourite cities in Scotland. Similar to Edinburgh, it has an imposing castle set on a rock face (which I have fond memories of seeing on our yearly family holidays in the highlands).
The Ochil Hills are a magnificent backdrop to the city, and really adds an air of mystery to Stirling. One of the most famous places to visit is the Wallace Monument, dedicated to William Wallace, the famous Scottish Knight, and overlooks the site of the Battle of Stirling Bridge where Wallace defeated the English back in 1297. It’s a short steep climb up to the monument and is home to the Wallace Sword which you can see with a visit inside the monument itself.
